I am trying to copy an entire database, and it's contents of course, but will rename it. Is this possible?

Well
what kind of database is it?

Of course this is possible in most of the cases that I know but the way you do it will vary greatly depending on what you are using.

Hi Transcend, it's Access, if this is what you meant. I want to copy this and rename it. and also, if you know, when I rename the table, the queries and forms I created using this table wont work --the dialog box saying "the table (new name) does not exist, please make sure it exists or ....something like this" pops up. Is there a way to rename and have other related queried or forms update the data source too?
thanks a lot :)

Hmmm.. i just tried renaming a couple of tables and my forms and queries worked without any problem. In fact they knew about the name change to a table....

pweegar, I first supposed it would work too, but it didn't. Any idea why? In fact, I think I tried to work this with another database on another computer, it was fine, but not with this particular database on this particular computer. Is it possible that this database or the computer is set up differently? If anyone know and have any assumption and possible solution to it would be truly appreciated.

If you create forms/queries/VBA code that references the table name, you are going to have to manually update the table name in each instance. There is no easy "magic" way to update table references.

What you're asking is "can I get away with renaming the table" and the answer is no. Don't delete the table--if you need to see different data there, then "back up" the table, delete the contents of the table, and re-append data to it. I don't know what you're trying to accomplish so I can't tell you what to do specifically. Just don't rename your tables and try and use them in the same way.

PS--when doing a lot of db manipulations, make a backup of your .MDB first.
