This is my only server and I want to provide ip addresses for 3 subnets (2.1; 2.2 and 2.3).

Where do I specify the range of ip addresses?

Do I first create the DHCP objects (Server, Addresses Range, Pool, Subnet) then start the NLM in the console? and does it matter in what order I create all of these?

Thanks

You create the server object first.

Then..

- Subnet
- Subnet Address Ranges (for your 2.1, 2.2, 2.3 - This will be within the subnet that you created)

Then assign the options, router, dns, slp, etc. Then startup the NLM.

sstoppel,
I did not know anything about dnipinst.nlm. Probably this is part of the problem I am having with DHCP. I will have to read more about this.

Marv,
I followed your instructions and now my sub net '2.1', where my Netware server is located, is working fine, but the '2.2' and '2.3' subnets are not able to find the DHCP server.

I created a Subnet and a Address Range objects per each subnet, but only the one where the server is located is working. What am I doing wrong here?

Assuming they are across a router (usually the case) or in a different vlan(sometimes), you need to have a DHCP helper on your router so the DHCP packets will pass. Otherwise it will never work. in Cisco, the term is IP Helper. Other routers may call it something else.

Hey Marvin,

I tried to configure the IP helper on my 4506 switch which has 2 vlans for workstations and 1 for servers. I have two questions you might be able to help with:

1. How do I get the proper subnet address to respond to the proper VLAN? It seemed like the first available address was going in response to the broadcast whether it was the correct subnet or not.

2. How can I implement my Zenworks PXE server across multiple VLANs?

Sstoppel, for your first question, I am going to have to refer you to the routergod website where they have an excellent explanation of how this works:
2nd question, I don't have an immediate answer. With single subnets, you have to add an additional attribute for PXE to work. (Don't have the exact reference off hand - there's a TID). I have to think that with the helper address set correctly, PXE will work fine across multiple vlans.

I don't think so. That's talking about using a NetWare server as a router - something that NetWare actually does very well, but it's not really practical. In 15 years I've only seen one company actually do it that way, and they used IPX. Most people leave the routing up to the real routers.
