Hello all,

I'm having an issue on changing public IP address of the teleworker server.

we use to have ATT IPA but now it has changed to Comcast IPA. The teleworker server running CentOS 4.4.

I was able to go to this file \etc\sysconfig\network-scripts to replace the new IPA that Comcast provided, but for some reason it will not work and the hand set will not work as well. If I put back the old IPA from ATT then the hand set start to work again.

The main phone system is Mitel 3300 CIX.

I appreaciated any help/trick.

Ken.

I might be way off here, but when we have had to change the Teleworker IP we just login to the Mitel Linux and you can configure the server from the menu's. You can go through the entire setup but only change the external ip as required.

One thing to note that if you change the broadcasted IP then AMC will need to be changed by releasing the license and reassigning it. You can only do this once then you will have to contact AMC direct to do it for you.

Also, after you make all these changes to MSL, you will have to go to each Teleworker set - reboot while holding the 7 key and put in the new IP address for the teleworker server.

You need to log into the server admin console and change the IP address from in there.

Thanks to all for the helps, how can I access the console after I logged in as root. Is there a command to access the console?

I can login to teleworker server thru web gui port 80 but could not fing the option to change the public interface IPA. Do I need to be messing with this gui interface at all?

What is AMC and MSL mean? Sorry never heard of these words before.

Thanks again

Ken

Try using PuTTY. Login with username-admin.

If you did not take enough time to get it right the first time...

What makes you think that you have time to fix it?

You don't need to login as root. Just connect a monitor and keyboard to the server and turn on. You will get a login prompt (you may need to hit return to kick it into life). At this login screen log in using the username & password that was defined during the install. If you are unsure try the user/pass that you use for the browser.

AMC is the Mitel licensing server where licenses & software are downloaded from.

MSL is Mitel Standard Linux the OS that the Teleworker software runs on.

Thanks again Bobcheese and other contributer.

I was able to login to teleworker server using admin acount and able to see the console. I was able to go thru the configuration process to change the public IPA of the external interface. I was able to verified that the test for internet connection is good. I was able to ping the gateway as well.

I'm now even in bigger trouble then before because the IP phone nolonger working. It was working with the old public IP address but after I changed the external IPA and rebooted teleworker server things went south.

The Mitel phone model number is 5330. The error message I got was L2&boot error... TFTP server not available. It showed that i have a valid local IPA which is 192.168.1.100

As far as I can tell the phone got a dynamic IPA from the Phonesystem 3300 CXI controller.

Is there any extra steps I can do or configure to get the phone working again? do I need to do anything on the phone it self?

I already rebooted the 3300 CXI controller, the teleworker server and the IP phone it self but so far no joy..

Again thank you for any helps.

Also, after you make all these changes to MSL, you will have to go to each Teleworker set - reboot while holding the 7 key and put in the new IP address for the teleworker server.

You need the new external IP address, and input this address into the phone.

The teleworker sets will probably have static addresses. I don't think you can assign teleworker server IP address via DHCP. Reboot a teleworker set and hold down 7 step through the options for teleowrker mode and you will see the old IP address of the TW server. Change to new address and reboot.

Thanks again.

This moring I was able to press 7 and plug in the network cable, it asked me if I want to config the network, I did and was able to change the old public IPA to the new one, still no worky. the set showed that i have 192.168.1.100 and ICP showed that I have the new public IPA. still not working is there anything else that I needed to do? is there a place where I can get the manual on how I can configure the phone. the model of the phone is Mitel 5330

Ken

Phones shouldn't be a problem all they need is a valid internal address & mask, gateway, and external TW address.

The new IP address is that on a new circuit? Behind a firewall?

Good morning Bobcheese, and thank you for the quick respond.

Basically we have ATT Synchronise DSL and that is a dedicate loop that does not share regular analog phone line. And the reason we switch to Comast is because ATT only allow up to 412k upload and download. it was very slow when we tried to do anything. So we switched to Comcast cable internet which we get up to 10mbps download speed. Comast provided a modem, one of the port we use for office lan with it own static ip address, another port we use it for phone system Mitel 3300 and teleworker server with it own static ipa. as far as i know there is no firewall on the leleworker server.

I bassically put the old plublic IPA back on TW server and the IP phone started to work again. I don't know what is the problem here?

I notice that on the Mitel 3300 CXi controller also have a WAN port I don't know if that needed to be configure or not. I think I did everything right on the TW server but nothing seem to work.

As of right now the phone is working in the office with the old IPA configuration, so when the user take the phone home it will not work for them. I guess I will keep digging into this issue, It should not be that hard.

Thanks for trying to help, for a moment I talk I was getting closer to get this job done.
:)

Ken

If it works on the old circuit but not the new one then the only things that have changed are the router and the circuit nothing else so here's where your problem lies. If you put the new IP address into the TW phones and they dont connect then maybe there is a problem with the external IP address

Basic troubleshooting for Teleworker or now it is called Mitel Border Gateway:
- login as admin so you can see the menu
- execute the Test internet connection
- if not working fix it! Check your configuration and network routing.

- check programming of the user through the browser login
- menu system is different depending on version (on MBG make sure to enable teleworker service to start, got me twice already)
- setup the phone for teleworker (holding key “7” when powering up and adding the external IP address of the server, this becomes the IP address for call control and firmware download, otherwise called ICP and TFTP)
- if not working boot the phone holding volume up, find Tools in the menu and Ping the server
- the phone still has to get an IPA from a DHCP or setup static (most home routers have DHCP server built in)
- firewall setup (other then DMZ): see documentation for specific ports.

Thanks to all again.

I think I know what the problem is now. But unfortunately I could not do anything about it because I can not login to the Mitel 3300 CXi controller to change the WAN IPA of this controller. it is still have the old ATT Address I think.

I did a little test by putting everything back the way it was and ofcourse the IP phone worked. I then disconnected the WAN link of Mitel 3300 CXi controller immeadialy the phone get disconnected. I still have the old modem from ATT and both of the teleworker server and Mitel 3300 CXi connected to this ATT modem there fore they communicated thru the WAN LINK interfaces ( Public IP Address ). Now after I changed the TW external IP interface and did not do the same for Mitel 3300 CXi there fore no communication between the 2 servers.

I called the vendor to request for the system root password of Mitel 3300 they then told me that they have to come out to reset it. But my problem with them is that they never give us the password for the 3300 system, they basiclly told us that some one has changed the system password.

I just have problems with these people and was not happy with their service that's why i'm here on this board.

I'm now on the hunt on another problem which is to gain access to Mitel 3300 system and if I can do that I think i can get the WAN IPA updated to comcast and that should take care of business. I affraid I will have to call the vendor again so they can charge me for something they should have provided when we bought the phone system.

Thanks again to all.

Ken

This might be a good reason for us to ask for a network diagram next time.

You should be able to fix this without changing anything on the 3300, assuming your TW server is also configured with a second internal facing NIC.

If the Teleworker server's internal NIC/IP address can communicate with the internal NIC/IP address of the 3300 (ideally being in the same network segment/vlan, but via an internal router will work too if they are in separate subnets/segments), just login to the TW server, click "Teleworker Solution" under "IP telephony" on the left hand menu. In the pane on the right, there will be a section showing the ICPs registered to your TW server. Click the modify button and change the IP there to the internal IP address of the 3300.

Once you do that, you can change the WAN IP of the TW server, then make sure to set the phones to connect to the new TW server public IP address.

Thanks JohnKeri and Braybk.

I need to try Braybk solution. Basically the TW has two nic one go to comast modem which is public ipa, the other one is internal nic which go to the same segment/vlan as Braybk mentioned. As much as possible i do not want to touch the Mitel 3300 phone system. The people here did not have a problem too pay for Mitel vendor support is just that they taking too long to do anything for these people who owned the phone system.

I will try Braybk solution and will update to all. as of right now the user can use the phone and I need to leave them alone, is just that if this lady want to take the phone home to work at home then she can't until I update the TW server to new Comcast IPA. I will try later on maybe on Saturday. Will update to all what the outcome will be.

Thanks again to all who tried to help me out in this regard.

Ken

Good morning to all,

I checked the ICP configuration as Braybk suggested it is point to Mitel 3300 internal lan which is ipa 192.168.1.2, so technically it should work according to Braybk. but it is still not working. So I've give up on this. I will have to ask the customer to get the orignal vendor to coming and fix it.

Thanks again to all for your valuable time for guiding me this far I just fall short a litle . :)
