How do you change the computer's Machine ID. I am not talking about it's name, but the actuall ID. Thanks in advance.

owngod,

As far as I know, there is no way to change a machine id. Although, I would have to have more detail on what type of machine id you're trying to change before I would say that definatively.

If you're trying to change the MAC address, this is a unique 16 digit hex # which is assigned to a network card and is necessarily unique to the manufacturer as to avoid problems between "identically named" cards and to help with solving tech issues with the manufacturers' support dept. There is another unique machine id which consists of the date of installation of some applications with the IP addy of the machine. Again, this is one that can't be changed either for tech support reasons (and proof of purchase).

If you're talking an IP address, that could be changed, but you would also have to look at the other programs and machines which refer to that IP Address. Make sure all the references are changed and then change the address. Usually the first 2 sets of numbers are set in stone, and the third set sometimes also. The fourth set of numbers is the easiest to change as long as there isn't a naming conflict.

Again, if you could detail exactly what you're trying to do and what "machine id" you're referring too, since that phrase means different things to different people, it would help.
