I am having a hard time blocking Google's Gmail. At my firewall (Symantec Gateway 5400) I have blocked gmail.google.com, gmail.com and about every combination I can think of and yet I can still get to my Gmail account and login. Hotmail, AOL, Yahoo and a few others are blocked with no problem but Gmail seems to be hassle. Think blocking their MX record would work? I finally gave up for the day but just curious if anyone has blocked them. Thanks for any help!

Cheers
Rob

Try mail.google.com, not gmail.google.com.

Of course unless you block pop3 & smtp ports also then they will still be able to access google mail via email clients by going thru their mail servers.

Well, I think I have a work around that should do the trick. I think I will just route the pages to local host in DNS, that'd cure it. Or route it to some other website like google.com.

Thanks for the help!

Cheers

We use surf control to block certain websites. I currently can block all web based email using surf control and I get email notification when someone fails an attempt. It works good for us.

Hi, Rob.

Any idea how routing specific addresses or domains by using internal DNS servers is achieved? I had a look into it a little while ago, I didn't have much luck!

Russell.

Carlsberg don't run I.T departments, but if they did they'd probably be more fun.
