We have a postcript level 1 imagesetter (go ahead, laugh). Company won't buy a new printer. We're purchasing Adobe CS anyway (OS X compatible) but I still need to work on OS 9 to be able to print a lot of Quark 4.1 materials on the old printer. Unless my source was wrong, I'm supposed to "switch" between 2 operating systems every day to do this. I forgot how this works since I still haven't started using OS X (there was no need before). My Mac has both OS but we need to upgrade to Panther. Can I work on 2 documents that are compatible with different operating systems at the same time or do I have to quit out of one to work with the other? Don't know how "classic mode" works--if this is how it's done--and my concern is to be able to print Quark 4.1 files no matter what OS system I use (I'm afraid of files going "unusable" on me). Sorry if this is too long--I'm a first time member. Really appreciate the help :)

Classic is considered a layered operating system. It runs on top of OSX.

You can easily work on Quark 4 in Classic and instantly switch to InDesign CS in OSX. You do not need to reboot to jump from operating system to operating system. They run concurrently.

Why is everyone in this forum responding to me as picklefish?

As I mentioned in my question, I'm a first time user in a forum. Not sure I'm following the correct procedure to thank my helper, but here it goes anyway:
Wanted to thank Jimoblak for a very speedy and professional response. I've been very isolated in my job as a Mac user and have had to rely on myself exclusively, which sometimes is exhausting. I've read some of the comments about this site and I agree. You're a class act and a breath of fresh air. Thank you :)

Panther and Classic work way better than Jaguar did for us.
