I would like to use the modem/internet to dial a telephone/mobilephone number; besides a mic/headphone set, what software do I need?

Thanks for any information.

if you running windows, there's a program in windows system named phone dialer.
it can be install through control panel - add remove software - windows setup - communications

Thank for the information, but...another question: how do I use that to make a long-distance call through the internet so I only pay a small fee, instead of the usual toll call?

I got the message (something like) "the line or address is in use by another program or device..." when the modem is connected to the internet.

Well think of it this way, if you are connected to the internet and you also have a proper phone on the same line, what happens when you pick up that phone, you'll here a load of screaches and noises from you computer. You modem is getting used for the internet, you can't use it to dial a house or mobile as well at the same time, you need extra software, I know if your american then you can do this with a hotmail account and using its messaging service. May be try searching yahoo for software that can do this for you.!

There are actually a number of free online services that you can use to make phone calls to anywhere in the US for free. The only one I can think of offhand is dialpad.com, which I believe uses your web browser so there is no need to download additional software.

Another good one is the US version of Yahoo Messenger, lets you make calls to any US number via the Internet and it's.....FREE!!!

Thanks mcvpjd3, I'll give that a try!

Best regards,
