I'm trying to replace the line markers at data points (the monotone shapes at each point) with my own image, for example an image of a bullseye. I understand that I can change the line markers to a small set of monotone shapes such as diamonds, squares, triangles and circles, but how do I set it to use my own image?

Please see attached image. I've highlighted the first few line markers so you can see what I'm trying to change.

Thanks in advance!

Hi,

Copy the image.

Select all the datapoints or one datapoint and paste.

Any way to do this "within" Excel, rather than photoshop or similar?

Just to clarify - the markers needn't be the same color as the line. Also, for all shapes but the dashes, you can have different "background" and "foreground" colors.

so you could do something like this:

Do what within excel? Create a picture of a bullseye? I'd probably just grab one online.

A bullseye was just an example. For whatever reason, my boss would like to insert various images as line markers (external images such as gifs or pngs created in adobe cs or found off the web). Two examples he gave me were "bullseyes" and "flames". Why he wants this, I have no idea :\ so I'm just trying to see if it can be done. Tek-tips users have surprised me many times when I thought something couldn't be done, so that's why I've posted this. Sorry to not have been more specific from the beginning. Please let me know if you know a way to "link" or "embed" external images in place of line markers. Thanks!

skip already answered your question. copy an image and select one data point or all data points; go to edit, paste

That's what Skip's post was about.

Find an image, any image. Let's use this one: [yoda]

Right click on Yoda and select Copy Image (if using IE, it's just copy).

Now go to the chart.

Single Left click on one of the Markers. All of the Markers will be highlighted, indicating that they are selected.

Now [Ctrl]+[V] to paste.

Voila! Now your markers are little Yoda heads.

Oh, I thought Skip was just being a smart@ss. Misunderstanding on my part. Thank you Skip [medal], and everyone else for pointing out the obvious! [thumbsup2]
