Hi All, I have 3 1720 routers on 12.0/12.1 and I need to be at least up to 12.2/12.3, preferably even up to current, but I have no service contracts and no access beyond guest at Cisco's site. Any suggestions or do I need to contact Cicso?
burtsbees, I am having some trouble opening this file. I am trying to open it with stuffit 11, and it is telling me is an unknown format. Any suggestions?
Did you download it, or are you trying to just open it? What you do is download it to your computer ("save to disk" instead of "open with") and I would use a tftp server and upgrade the IOS that way. It will not do anything with your config at all, but just in case, back up the config and the existing IOS. If you need help upgrading the IOS, let me know and I will be glad to help.
burtsbees, I downloaded it, then tried to open it. I have a system set up as a tftp server, I will download the current configs, but I am going to wait until next week to upgrade the routers since we are very busy on weekends and if one blew up I'd have hell to pay. Could you mark this thread in case I do need any assistance next week?
Hi, I just got 2 Routers, unfortunately they have a username/password using their internal authentication server. I was hoping I could get an IOS file from someone.
Hi Burts,
I just got 2611XM. I have no experience with cisco thing. I have no software to communicate with router. I got rollover RJ45 cable with 18,27,36,45,54,63,72,81 pin out. Can you give me some guide for me?
Plug the DB-9 connector end into the serial port of your computer, and the RJ-45 end into the console port of the router. Open HyperTerminal (Windows---Start-->All Programs-->Accessories-->Communications-->HyperTerminal), then name the connection, choose COM1, click ok, then select "Restore Defaults" on the next screen, hit ok. Then power on the router, and you will see output for about 2 minutes. After the output is done, it will ask two questions---no and yes, in that order. Then it will say "press return to get started"---press return. More output. Press return a few more times, and you will get a prompt like this...
Router>
then type
Router>en
Router#?
It will give all the commands possible from that prompt. Then type
Router#conf t
Router(config)#?
Again, it will give you all the commands. Please let me know your skill level with routing, switching, tcp/ip, and networking in general, especially Cisco, and I will give you my ftp server address. It is no longer as listed above, because the IP address changes often. I am assuming you are trying to study for CCENT/CCNA? If so, you have one hell of a good router to start with.
Thanks alot for your guide. I am not use to be with any cisco things. I am happy Microsoft Guy. MCSE, MCDBA. I was try to step in to CISCO. I bought it form Ebay. It is work as you say. It was come with empty slot. Now I bought some WAN card and module. I found alot of commands in it. I thought it is like Linksys router, I can't use Web base Ulitity. I need to learn lot of thing in it. Thanks for your guide. I like to share your knowledge on CISCO. I had been download some documents. Give me some advise PLS.
