As a new group owner in yahoo I'm being attacked by folks
sending me pif files w/ viruses.I'm just a user and new to the pc world but when I r click and drop to 'view source'
scroll downto the doc I get all this info that all is hidden and the only thing I can find is 'MSgld'plus a bunch
of code that doesn't lead anywhere. Is there anyway to track these peps or is there a leagle group or court to forward this stuff to and let them handle it.I scan the docs and delete them but these folks must love a challenge cause they keep coming at me.I've been told by other group owners that this is happening to them as well starting about 2 weeks ago and has not stopped yet.Again I am a new user so plz keep this in mind in reply.
Many Thanks-Technoflunkie

It is virtually impossible to track these back to the original source, even knowing how to read the source. Most viruses and spam mail these days are sent via zombies, or other computers that have been hijacked.

It ios possible for an experienced person to read the source and discover the originating ISP, but in most cases, hopefully the poor slob that has the infected machine will eventually discover the problem and have it cleaned.

Your best bet is to do everything to prevent your email from being harvested in the first place. Never post your real email on a group... on method of posting the email would be to post it as "youremail at yourisp dot com" or youremailREMOVE@yourispTHIS.com.

Never use your primary email to sign up for newsletters or game sites, etc, iuse a yahoo discardable email for that.

Use a spam filter, I use the inexpensive SpamKiller to sort the spam for easy discard. SpamPal is a free filter that will do a good job also.

When in doubt, deny all terms and defnitions.

Thanks for the tips and this confirms what my cuz told me this weekend about the address info.I guess I'll re-do that
and change it but I think these guys pass this info around and some of them are pretty good as they already know what will get through my filters as in native american handles,
and stuff I use or allow in.I run spybloker and have just installed ad-aware,and I never open attachments from folks I dont know and sometimes from those I do if they dont let me know its coming. Thanks for the info and the time to respond to my post.

Ad-aware is good, but I like Spybot Search and Destroy. Make sure you have a good anti-virus software installed, and as viol8in mentioned, don't use your regular e-mail address. One last thought, if you get an e-mail and towards the bottom there is the option to opt out if you got the message by mistake, DON'T click on the remove me. 9 times out of 10 it's just a way of confirming the e-mail address you have is legit. They send out thousands of e-mails to any address they can think of, and if you say remove me, they know your address is real. If you're running Outlook, you can right click a new message, select options and see who the message came from. If it doesn't make sense, deleteit. Good luck.

Good advice. The CanSapm Act passed by congress proves the stupidity of allowing government to legislate the internet. One of the key provisions of the act is all email solicitations must have an opt-out link, and every intelligent, knowledgeable internet user knows never to opt out, as that is one of the main methods spammers use to confirm good email addresses.
