How do I test ISDN circuit on Definity G3

Howdy yall,

Trying to get some help with installing a new T1 ISDN line to our Definity G3 v.12

I believe I've installed/configured trunk (PRI) and signalling group correctly, but when I "status trunk 1", it comes back out-of-service-NE. What does that mean? More importantly, what is the right way to test my end of circuit? Busy the trunk or signalling group, then test DS1? Which commands?

Circuit card TN464HP HW002 FW0018. Trunks were configured and signalling group created on last port 01A1524.

Obviously a newb,so any help is greatly appreciated.

-Peter

Test board 1a15. See if it fails test 138. If it passes, then you have connectivity from the provider, if it fails, then more than likely it's on their end.

Is this a new group or are you adding more trunks to an existing group? Also which G3 is this? I, R, SI.

Let us know and we can help you through this.

Thanks guys.

I "busy board 01A15, and ran a "test board 01A15" and here are the results (sorry can't copy paste screen from ASA, so re-typing results):
UDS1 138 FAIL
UDS1 139 thru 146 PASS

ISDN-TRK 36 PASS
ISDN-TRK 255 FAIL 8
ISDN-TRK 256 ABORT 1113
ISDN-TRK 257 ABORT 1116

It's a G3si v.12.

Do I have to place a loopback jack anywhere before testing?

You're not getting connection. How are you connecting your DS1 to the DMARC? Are you using an ICSU 120A & T1 cable? Have you confirmed with the service provider that their link is good.

I don't think there is a need for the loopback jack, but you can put it in line and then the service provider could loop to that I guess...

Thanks,
CJH

Yes. Using an ICSU 120A & T1 cable. Provider states their link is good.

I'm looking for a way to test from my switch to demarc.

will the DS1-loopback command do anything?

thread575-1489905

This thread will help you make a loop back jack or plug. Plug this into the smart jack and your provider can see if their are any errors on the circuit. You can also use this to test the switch side. If you build a plug you can use a regular 8 conductor station cord (like the 7400 series sets use) and use a 8 pin double female adapter to the CSU.

This should help you narrow down where you problems are.

Flipped the transmit/receive pairs on demarc and ran "test board 01A15" and all test passed except 139 now.

What does that mean?

I did the following and passed, does it mean my end (to the loopback jack) is good?

busyout board 01A15
test ds1-loop 01A15 cpe-loopback-jack = passed

Haven't been able to contact provider yet. Just wanted to test my ds1 end first.

Also on the front of the circuit pack, the four status lights are in the following states:
1 = off
2 = red
3 = green
4 = green
What do those lights mean?

Appreciate your help - what a great forum!

- Peter

You need to work with provider to get signal group in service before the trunks will come in service.

contact provider and work with them to fire up signal group

you can do command "status signal group X" to check signal group

This is fustrating :\

I placed a loopback jack on the back of the 120A CSU and ran "test board 01A15" and all test passed. Also get status lights on front of board to match the good T1:

1 = off
2 = Yellow
3 = Off
4 = green

When I do a "status Signal group 3", it states out-of-service. Same result when I do a "status trunk 1".

The provider states I need to bring up the carrier. What carrier, and how do I fire up the signal group. I busied it, tested, and released it and all passed, but the signal grp is still out of service.

I have worked with our provider long enough that they what i tell them is how things are. Not sure if your there with yours. Call them and tell them the signaling group is not up. Until you get this up the members are not going to work as the signaling group basically tells the other 23 members what they should be doing.

Have them work with you on the provisioning side and make sure you are both set up the for the same service. B8ZS, ESF, and this one is really important, the protocol version. If they are sending you "a"and your set up for "b" it's not going to work.

Thanks. Spoke with provider and we went thru our configs and same thing.

Here's my ds1. Does anybody see anything wrong that my rookie eye doesn't see?

When I change is to "n", more fields pop up:

How do I populate those fields?

Done. "status sig 3" still out of service. How do I bring it up with a loopback jack?

Can it be show in service with a loopback jack?

Just curious if I'm waisting my time trying to test my end first. Trying to make sure my end is good before contacting provider.

Is it possible to bring up DS1/signal group with a loopback jack to show "in-service".

Thanks!
