I'll admit this is a newbie question but my arena hasn't been on the NT side of things but since I've been branded the Citrix guy here, they're asking me what seems to be a basic question:
How does one set up a user to log into their NT4WS box and automatically have the citrix client "take over" complete with desktop and only those applications we provide for them? We're an all NT4 shop, btw. If someone can either provide the information or point me towards a document somewhere I'll be more than grateful. Thanks!

Login as any user. Start Program Neighbourhood. Create a connection to an application with no application name. This sounds weird but it just means that you should specify a server or Farm to connect to, but don't specify an application name. When no application name is specified the Citrix client will give you a Virtual Desktop (full screen if you specify seamless window) and this is the mode I suspect you are looking for. Called the icon "vDesktop"

You can copy this "app" to all clients by copying the appsrv.ini to appsrv.src in the Citrix client source files. That way, everyone gets a vDesktop option appearing in their Program Neighbourhood after the client is installed.

As it happens, I have written a wrapper application that starts "vDesktop" from the StartUp menu and shuts down Windows after the user logs out - making the whole startup/Citrix/shutdown thing seamless for users.

If you want a copy just let me know your email address.

Thanks for the advice. I'll test it out soon. And yes, I'd love to see that proggy of yours. My email is sguzman@wimi.uwservices.com
