I ordered a Digi One SP device to connect to my Merlin Magix switch but I need some advice in where to start other than just having the device on my hand.
Does anybody know if I need to pinout a DB9 TO RJ45 or if I need to configure a driver.
Please if anybody knows how to do this I will really appreciate it.
Thanks in advanced.

Bob Ramos

So, I will need the DB9 TO DB25 to connected to the Digi One SP right? And then I will need a DB25 Female to connect it after the DB9 TO BD25, Am I correct?
Well that sounds very good.
Have you tried this before merlinman?

"And then I will need a DB25 Female to connect it after the DB9 TO BD25, Am I correct?"

That would depend on the gender of the 355 Adapter you get.

They come in both styles.

I have never used the Digi One, but I do a lot of 355 Adapter connections.

I have used DIGI products in the past, but not the DIGI ONE SP.

The data sheet shows it has a DB9 male connector. You can make an adapter of DB9F to 8 position modular jack or plug, or use a DB9-DB25 and a 355 adapter to modular jack and an 8 wire modular cord.

Did you not have the CD that can with the DIGI ONE SP?

Here is a note on serial tunneling from DIGI that may help you:

Configuring the PortServer TS and Digi One Device Servers for Serial Tunneling
Using the Web Interface
Symptom:

How do you configure the Digi One for serial tunneling using the web interface?
Solution:

To configure the Digi One for serial tunneling, you will need two units.
For this example, we will refer to them as Unit A and Unit B.

For Unit A - Server Side (side that receives the initial connection request):
1. Type the IP Address of the Digi One RealPort IA in the address field of your internet browser to connect to the Digi One RealPort IA.
2. After logging in select Configure, Port.

3. In the Device Type drop down box, change the device type to Printer.
4. Select the appropriate baudrate, databits, parity, stopbits and flow control.
5. Click Submit to save your settings to the Digi One.
6. Click on the Advanced button.
7. Click on the box next to Binary Mode, if this is a Telnet connection and binary data will be transferred through the port.
NOTE: Leave blank if ASCII.

8. Click Submit to save your changes to the Digi One RealPort (IA).
9. Reboot the Digi One RealPort (IA) before using.

For Unit B - Client Side (or side that initiates the connection):
NOTE: You can autoconnect at bootup or when the unit is on (DCD is asserted), reference the appropriate configuration for your
requirements (see configuration 1 or 2).
1. Autoconnect at bootup:
A. Type the IP Address of the Digi One in the address field of your internet browser to connect to the Digi One.
B. After logging in select Configure, Port.

C. In the Device Type drop down box, change the device type to Modem In.
NOTE: Terminal type does not matter.
D. Select the appropriate baudrate, databits, parity, stopbits and flow control.
NOTE: The port settings should be the same as the configuration used on the Server Side.
E. Click Submit to save your settings to the Digi One.
F. Click on the Advanced button and select the radio button to enable Autoconnect.

F. Enter the IP Address of Unit A (Server Side) in the IP Address box.
G. For the TCP Port number, you will want to accept the default value of 2001.
H. Click on the box next to Force DCD to enable it.
I. Click on the box next to Binary Mode, if this is a Telnet connection and binary data will be transferred through the port.
NOTE: Leave blank if ASCII.
J. Click Submit to save your settings to the Digi One.
K. Reboot the Digi One before using.
L. You have now successfully configured your Digi One for Serial Tunneling.

2. Autoconnect when Unit B is on (DCD is asserted).

H. Click on the box next to Binary Mode, if this is a Telnet connection and binary data will be transferred through the port.
NOTE: Leave blank if ASCII.
I. Click Submit to save your settings to the Digi One.
J. Reboot the Digi One before using.
K. You have now successfully configured your Digi One for Serial Tunneling.

NOTE:If you have one device that is already networked, reference Autoconnect in the manuals below for more information.

Whoa, it ain't that complicated. The CD that comes with the device will enable a new serial port on your PC that is actually a Ethernet connection. After install you can go to the windows control panel and find a mulit-port serial adapter to change or add com ports on the PC. The connection to the PC is Ethernet, your LAN. The connection to the Merlin is RJ45 to a 355AF adapter, to a 25 to 9 pin adapter, to the Digi One device, to the LAN.
I have over 75 locations with this arrangement, they work great.

43 years in the business and counting.

Ok, I already have the multi-port serial adapters on my device manager and I assigned an IP Address to it and now I can talk to the Digi One SP,I don't have a 25 to 9 pin adapter right now but I will get one later and I'll try to connect the the merlin magix system.

Is there any special pinouts for any of this procedures?
Let me know please.

This is the first time I do this so I really appreciate your help guys.

Bob Ramos

I don't have a pinout print handy, but if you are using standard DB adapters and the 355AF or M adapter, then no need to change any pins. Just make sure you have the right connector gender for the various pieces. There have been threads posted in the past that have had this info, so if you are inclined, you can search past threads for it.

Good luck!

Can someone tell me the pinouts from a Digi RJ45 connector to the Partner ACS admin port? Feeling kinda stupid today...not wanting to (Digi Side) RJ45 to DB9 to (Converter) db9 to DB25 to (355 adapter) DB25 to RJ45 just to make the connection
