We are running 2 Win2K Server boxes and have approx. 100 workstations (mostly XP Pro). How do I set up a Directory Server for Netmeeting on one of our servers so that users here can find other people easily and quickly without using someone's internet Dir Server? Thanks!!

Does anyone know the answer to the question above? I now have the same question.

Also, I can use NetMeeting to place a call to another computer by typing in that computer's IP address, but is there another way to connect using either a computer name or user name?

Thanks!

Do you actually need to have Site Server to do this?

No, you don't really need a site server of your own to run netmeeting, there are ILS servers on the net belonging to microsoft and others that will allow you to connect and use netmeeting.

I installed the ILS via Add/Remove Windows Components, and I cannot connect to the server. I can use ilscfg to change the port numbers, publish it, etc, but still to no avail. Netmeeting just wont do it. It keeps telling me that I may not be connected to the network, or the server may be busy...Stupid BS. I can connect to the server fine via Term. Services, I can ping it, and do everything but connect to the ILS via Netmeeting. PLEASE HELP!!!!

I also installed the ILS Service, and NetMeeting can connect to it fine on the clients. If I run ilscfg localhost /listusers on the server I can see all the users logged into the ILS server, but if I open the directory window on the clients they don't see anyone. I think it is because I can not do the second set of instructions because I don't have Site Server.

Thanks Karmic!

Installed ILS and it fired up just fine.

valleysupply, take a look at this link: and then from the command prompt run "ilscfg /listpub". This should give you the name of the server that has ILS installed on it. Then from NetMeeting put that full server name in the for the directory and then it should work.

Funny thing is, I saw that doc, and tried it, but I guess its worth a try again....lets see if that will help at all.......

Good show oucats, nice to know it works. Have fun :)

It works for me... helps when you uncheck the box that says "Do not list my name in the directory"... makes it easier to see people!

It'd be great, but i cant even connect to the stupid thing

Are you on the inside of a network trying to get at the server or are you on the outside trying to get to the network through a firewall??

inside on the network...the server is a few feet away from me office

Did you run the "ilscfg /listpub" from the command line of the server it's installed on?? If you did and the command failed, then ILS is not installed on the server. If you run it and get the server name back, then it is installed and that is the server name you need to use in your Directory Lookup in NetMeeting.

I did, and it shows the server correctly. I put that into Netmeeting with and without the :1002 at the end, and it still didnt work. I also tried doing an "ilscfg [server] /port 1002" to make sure it is running on that port, but still to no avail.

Ok, there has to be something crazy wrong...When I type in "ilscfg /lispub" I get this:

ILS server: valley2.valleysupplyequipment.com, Port:1002
Found 1 service(s).

When I try to unpublish the service, by typing "ilscfg valley2 /unpublish 1002" I get this:

The specified ILS server is not registered with the specified port.
Use ilscfg /listpub for a list.

Unregister ILS service returned error: Unspecified error

AND, worst of all, when I type "ilscfg valley2 /publish 1002" I get this:

Service registered.

What the @#$% ?!?
