I have an Exch 5.5 server (NT 4 domain Exch 2000 (WIN 2000 domain)both in the same Organisation that need to replicate GAL and Public Folders. If this can be done, how?
Public folders are held on Exch 5.5 for that site.
The Exch 5.5 site users also have access to some Public folders in other sites (WIN 2000/Exch 2000) within the Organisation.
These folders are accessible to the Exch 5.5 site users form within Outlook 2000.
It can be done, it's no more complicated than replicating 2 exchange 2000 public folders.
1 Go into the Exchange Administrator Program
2 Highlight the Public Folder you want to replicate.
3 Choose File, Properties
4 Under the General Tab: Set the Age Limit to 100 Days.
5 Replicas Tab: Choose the Sites you want to replicate. Do this for whatever site you want to replicate. Click on Site, then add.
6 Replication Schedule Tab: Schedule the times you want to replicate. Suggest doing this at night
7 Advanced Tab:You may want to hide this from the address book. You can also set up Storage Limits on the folder.
Permissions: If you do not see the Permissions Tab, go to Tools, Options, Permissions. Choose Show Permissions Page for all objects.
Thanks Inq.
How do I replicate my address list between Exch 5.5 and Exch 2000 within the same organisation which consists of 8 sites?
The Bridghead Server is Exch 2000 on WIN2000 (All 8 sites contribute to the Global address list - all 8 sites are on seperate domains)
There are 4 sites running Exch 5.5 on NT 4, all others are 2000.
Thanks Inq,
The address lists are set up to replicate but if I add new users to the NT 4 Exch 5.5 site, then the users in the 2000 sites cannot see them.
This has all started since the 2000 site changed from mixed mode to full Active Directory. I think that this has someting to do with 2000 holding the adddress list in AD??
In which case you will need to setup the connector to pull the information from the Exchange 2000 server to into AD.
It maybe teaching to suck eggs but here it is anyway;
1. Your Exchange 5.5 has to be running SP3 or later.
2. Make sure you have logged on as someone with Domain Administrator permissions in the domain where the ADC will be installed. You will also need to have Enterprise Administrator permissions and Schema Administrator permissions (because the initial install of the ADC modifies the Active Directory Schema).
3. Once you have the correct permissions to install the ADC, put your Exchange 2000 Server CD in and navigate to \adc\setup.exe. From the install screen that appears, select the Active Directory Connector Service and Active Directory Connector Management checkboxes.
4. Let Setup run, and when it's done, select Finish (you shouldn't have to restart your server).
5. Configure the ADC by creating one or more connections agreements, this will setup a connection between AD and Exchange Server 5.5 to share info. Nomore than one ADC can be setup on the server, but you can setup more than one connection agreement. (Which is probably what you need to do). These can be two way or one way.
6. To configure a two-way Connection Agreement that replicates Recipient information between your Exchange 5.5 and Active Directory environments, right-click on the Active Directory Connector object and select New | Recipient Connection Agreement. In the Replication Direction window, select Two-Way Replication. You will be asked to name this Replication Agreement. Give it a descriptive name that you can use to identify this Agreement. Now the ADC needs to write information into the Exchange 5.5 Directory to establish the Connection Agreement. Select OK
7. Once you have selected OK, choose the Connections tab and find the Windows Servers section. Select Modify. Enter the username and password for an administrative account in your Windows environment. This is used to let the ADC access Active Directory, so it should have permissions to write to your Active Directory environment. After this, click on Modify in the Exchange Server section and select the Exchange 5.5 Service Account button. Also make sure that the ADC is using Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) and that it is connecting through port 389.
