I have a custom pc with a 250gb maxtor hard drive, it suddenly wouldnt boot up windows, it froze just before the xp loading screen.

I had been using this pc for almost four months prior to this incident and have not made any hardware changes at all in this time.

I tried two or three times to reboot but to no avail.

I started to run the pc with an old 80GB hitachi hard drive and installed xp pro on it. It works fine. But if i try to run the 250gb maxtor as a slave it doesnt appear in 'my computer' even though it appears in bios.

Any Ideas?

Did the 250gb HD can see in the Windows disk management? If yes, you can download EASEUS DataRecoveryWizard ( to recover your data. Use "Advanced Recovery" function and choose the 250gb HD first to search the partition, and then scan the partition that has your important data.

It doesnt appear in disk mamagment and data recovery wizard cant find it either, but it still appears in bios!

I think your HD has physical malfunction, the recover tool cannot help you. The best way to get data back is
to send your hard disk drive to local data recovery manufacturer.
