I have an Access 2000 project that I have been developing on my desktop. I am using Access for the front end and SQL server 7 as the backend. I need to move my project to a laptop. SQL used the name of my desktop for the server name which is different then the name SQL took for my laptop. I can't get Access to recognize the new server on my laptop. In the connections tab in Access it either defaults to my desktop's server name or is blank and Access sends me a message saying that it cannot establish a connection with the SQL server. Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks Donna

If you're using 'Linked' tables in your Access front end you should delete each of the linked tables and relink as before using the new data source.

If you have code in forms or modules or are using ActiveX controls you will have to change the ConnectionString and data paths individually. Having used DSN's will make this task a bit less time consuming.

That's pretty much it.
Hope this helps.
Amiel
amielzz@netscape.net

Hello Donna
I have been looking for a ideas about a prob. I have.
I am trying to establish a reference to the DAO 3.5 Object Library when m
my user has the project in another directory than the development
computer.

One idea is to deselect any references, save, then reselect & save.
(From VBA Editor, Tools, References)
I read somewhere that XL hardcodes paths sometimes.
Now I can't find out where I read this ....:>(

Just a wild idea
Amac.
