How do I measure progress in "units completed" instead of "days

I would like to use project to plan lessons in an elearning package - so rather than measuring "days" as the unit of progress, I need to measure "units completed".

Is there a simple way to use project in this capacity?

Ideally, the scale accross the top would start at 1 and go to 100 (assuming that there were 100 "lessons" to complete).

Any help would be appreciated.

It's not that difficult but it's using Project to make a pretty picture instead of using to do Project scheduling.

Create the task "t1" and in the Duration column enter "100ed" (100 elapsed days).

Display the "% Complete" column and choose any number. 5 % complete will show up as 5 elapsed days.

Why not use Excel? It makes nice pretty pictures and gives you great control over the colours.

Thanks for your reply.

I tried "elapsed days" - and while that gives me percent complete as a unit of days, the scale of days at the top is still in calendar time.

What I am wanting to use Project for is to plan an eLearning package that will have many lessons that require integration in order to be sequenced correctly.

I do not want to use a fully blown LMS at this stage (very expensive) but I do want to be able to plan what lessons go in which order and thier dependencies and then assign the writing of the lessons to different people.

Project would be ideal in planning both the content sequencing and the project management...but I need to be able to plan in "units" rather than "time"...so the scale needs to start at the "1st" lesson and then progress to the "Nth" lesson so that I can sequence the content according to which lesson it needs to be delivered in...

Additionally, I have another project that I would like to use Project for, which is: as a project management solution to the early years educational intervention for young children with autism.

This type of educational provision has more of a "unit" based progression as well - rather than "time" based. The learner progresses until they reach a certain criteria level (eg. can match 10 sets of identical pictures correctly) before moving on to another "unit" (eg. matches 10 sets of dissimilar pictures).

Again, Project would be very useful in managing this process - in addition to being able to look at time to completion.

I just need to know how to plan and display in "units" rather than "time".

I saw something about Project "Guides" that might be useful, but know no more than that.

Thanks anyway.

Hmmm ... quite interesting. A bit outside the normal usage of Project -- but still _somewhat_ doable.

In addition to the above ...

1. Set the task start date to an appropriate date
2. RightMouseButton on the timescale above the Gantt chart
2a. Set the "Units" to "days"
2b. Set the "Label" to "1, 2, 3, 4... (from start)"

I'm not sure how to integrate the dependencies (probably because I don't fully understand what you are trying to accomplish -- but I'll keep trying).

Cheers,

This will certainly do for now as I can have 1,2,3,4,5...accross the top, which is conceptually in line with what I want to do.

It would be great to be able to plan in "units" but acually set a "time" value for each "unit" - so that Lesson 1.1 might be one "unit" but have been allocated 5 days...if you could then switch between "units" and "time" you could look at an "assessment" of ability and how long it has taken to get there using the same project file.

Thanks again

Scott
