I need to make a plastic looking shine effect on a surface. I need to make an objects reflect light without using the plastic wrap tool.

I have only used the plastic wrap tool and have had some success with the "right" pic and some luck playing with the controls provided, but you're correct, it's not the right tool for everything plastic.

I did a Google search with "photoshop plastic look" and found a lot of posts. Could the following link help?

use the bevel and emboss layer feature and play around with the gloss conture curves for a glass or plastic look or less shine like on matte finish plastic increase the spread value this method also works well for metal and chrome looks too
