How do I keep users from opening up the db directly from the server?

Hi,
I have been surfing thru some of the security threads, but can't seem to find reference to my question.

I am using Windows 2000 and my users have permission to the folder in which my database resides in on the server.

I created a shortcut on their desktop, but some of them know where the database is located at on the server and are sometimes opening up the file and double clicking on the database file name to gain entry into the database.

Can someone tell me if it is possible to stop users (who have permission thru Windows 2000) from going into the database?

Thank you.

split the db into front and back ends...or consider moving to an intranet model

Any one have a techie job in Toronto, I need to work...being laid off sucks!

Use workgroups and Access security to limit access to DB to only those with proper security clearance. Volumes have been written on managing this process. Start with "workgroup" search in Access help. You can design your own workgroup and get rid of the default admin which would allow anyone to access the db. You can then restrict different users to different views of the db as requirted.
