I want to install dosread/write/dir.
I know I need to install them, as they don't come by
default.

I'm sure they are on one of the 5 install cd's (AIX 5.1).

1. Can someone tell me how to figure out what disk missing
software is on and what the file set name is?
2. Installation - go to smit, software install and pick
the correct cdrom/fileset?

Thanks,
Dan

From the following you should know you could install the fileset bos.dosutil from your cd.

# /test>which dosread
/usr/bin/dosread
# /test>lslpp -w /usr/bin/dosread
File Fileset Type
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
/usr/bin/dosread bos.dosutil

That did not work..

# which dosread
which: 0652-141 There is no dosread in /usr/bin /etc /usr/sbin /usr/ucb /usr/bin
/X11 /sbin /usr/java130/jre/bin /usr/java130/bin.

AIX 5.1 Maint 505

That's sure if bos.dosutil wasn't installed that's why ddlldd2000 said to install it.

Use smitty to do that, bos.dosutil is located on vol#3 of the AIX CDs: bos.dosutil 5.1.0.25

Thanks, that installed fine.

How did you "know" (so that I can figure out these things on my own later) that dosdir is from fileset bos.dosutil and
that it lives on cdrom 2?

Thanks,
d.

for the nubmer of the cd i've found that looking on google but i also could search in all the discs on my own pc.

For the future a good way to look for the informations you want is to look on the ibm site. For example if you look for dosread in some replies it's written wich is the owning installp package
