Back when I had Exchange 5.5 servers it was easy, you have a csv file with all the fields populated, and you used the Directory imoprt feature in the Exchange 5.5 Admin. I used this feature to import all the other non microsoft mail servers mailboxes we have here as custom recipients.

I would like to still do this in exchange 2000/AD environment, creating AD Mail enabled contacts from the same method but the directory import funcion is gone [thumbsdown]

What do I do? I'm sure there is a way, but I can't find it, please if anyone can help, i'd realy be gratefull. [thumbsup2]

Cheers!

OH, that's great! Thanks, I don't know why I didn't find that in the MS KB, but hey, I appreciate it!! :)

Thanks for that, now just one more thing on the same topic....

Is there any way to delete all contacts with this csvde utility? I just want to delete the contacts only, no users or mailboxes, just contacts. I know that I can just filter it in the ADU&C gui and delete 'em from there, but if I can incorporate it into a command line, it would definately make life easier.

Thanks again for your quick and very helpfull response Marcs41 [thumbsup2]

You're welcome.
Maybe you can try to filter the contacts out of the CSV before importing it, it will have less work to do then. [sub]If 'something' 'somewhere' gives 'some' error, excpect random guesses or no replies at all. Please specify details.

Contacts are what I want to import, but I also whant to delete all existing contacts before I import the new ones, understand?

I am in a university environment, and there is a lot of change here, once a week I update the GAL by deleteing all contacts (custom recipients when it was ex5.5) and then importing a new list that I create from a few other unix/other mail servers on campus useing directory import (now csvde util that you pointed me too)

What I'd like to do is automate the process, instead of me going into the ADU&C gui and manually selecting all contacts and deleteding them, then running the csvde command to import the new, I'd love to create a script that would do both of those steps in one swoop. ;-)

Thanks again for your input.

I want to know how to make the contacts mail enabled ...
I can inport the CSV into AD just fine but then I have to go into AD and make them mail enabled...

Yep read the link, if you put in the correct fields in the csv, the contact will be mail enabled.

On another note, does anyone know if this utility can delete the existing contacts in active directory, or know of another utility that does this?

Thanks in advance.
