Good day,

I have a summary value of a column in the Group3 detail section. What I want to do is move this summary value into the Group 2 header or above for that matter. When I move the summary field up, it turns to 0. I assume it's processed before the details of Group3 are written. Is there a way to make this work so I can have the summary value displayed prior to the group being displayed?

If this is a regular total, no problem.

Id this is a Running Total, by definition it achieves its value only at the end of the records it builds upon.

You may need to use a subreport to get the total before it's available in the main report.

If you describe the situation in more detail it may be easier to suggest a concrete solution.

Cheers,

Maybe I'm missing something, but I think there would be a problem even with a "regular" total in that only one instance of a group 3 summary would display at the group 2 header level--either the first instance of the summary in the group (if you write a formula like: sum({table.field},{table.group3field})), or if you drag a summary, it will display the summary at the group 2 (not 3) level, or if you display a variable, it will reflect the last value of the previous group.

Since typically there are multiple instances of a group within a higher order group, this raises the question of why you would be trying to display one value from group 3 in a group 2 header. If, in fact, you want to display all group 3 summaries in the group 2 header, you could insert a crosstab in the group 2 header, using the Group 3 field as the row, with no column. Otherwise you would probably have to do as Ido suggested, and insert a subreport in the group 2 header which calculates the value.

I solved the problem. I'll try to as accurate as I can be. I made a summary field in the Report Header which I can reference in my other formulas below, but still about the group where I the values lie. I hoped I explained this well enough.

I made this formula in the group2 head. It is summing up data in Group3 and seems to work just fine. But, calling a summary number in Group3 from Group2 does not work.. or at least for me it didn't. Thanks for all your help.
