Hi

When I run AVG Scan it says that it has found the bat/deleter virus but it is always unable to remove it.

This is the only virus that it has ever found and it can't get rid of it!

The location according to AVG is in the folder C:\Dell\RecourceCD\html folder.

When I look at this location it says that the folder is empty.

How do I get rid or this?

Mike

PS.

Also when I run a complete search of my computer I don't find any such file. I have show hidden files and folders checked.

PS. again.

My research shows this virus only in relation to AVG antivirus software. I didn’t find any reference to any other virus checker finding this virus and every reference that I found was about it not being able to remove it.

I didn't find any real suggestion on how to remove it or an explanation of what it does.

Hi again.

Well I got rid of it.

I finally got it to let me delete the folder that it said the file was in. I had to open in safe mode to get it to do it. The folder showed 0 bytes so I wasn't worried about losing anything anyway.

Then I ran the virus check again.
Sure enough it showed the virus in the Recycle Bin.

I emptied the Recycle Bin and ran it again, and the virus was gone.

Why did AVG see the file and why couldn't I?

Why couldn't AVG get rid of it?

And why couldn't I find any information about this virus other then people saying that AVG had found it and they couldn't get rid of it.

Other people reported the virus in locations other then the one that I found it on my computer.

I’d be interested in any information about this virus or is it a error that AVG makes?

Mike

You have to be lucky indeed to be able to rid your system of a Virus with a simple AVG dstection. This usually only happens if the virus hasnt activated from its orginal 'install location'.

If the virus manages to get into a protected folder (as in your case) then AVG wont be able to remove it easily.

If no other AV program can find this file then I would suspect a false positive (Its not really a virus), this can happen with any AV Program, if you suspect this you should report the mis-detection to Grisoft.
