I have just registered a domain name, but even after submitting its address to google, it still won't appear in the results when I do a search.
Please can anyone tell me an alternative way to get it found?

Submitting will do absolutely nothing. I did a test submit to Google, MSN and Yahoo at the same time 6 weeks ago Yahoo looked at the page once (same day) not visited the page since Google and MSN haven't been near the page.

You need links from directories, but with the current state of the home page you have 0 chance of being accepted at anywhere remotely worthwhile.

O.K. Thank you for the replies.

I will improve the page and seek out the directories? you talked about??

Matt.

I also am trying to get another site recognised/found by google, msn, yahoo ...
At least this is a legitimate site with real useful information on it, why wouldn't this be found worthy of listing? does anyone have any suggestions to make it worthy?
I've found similar sites on the search engines!

similar problem. No links from anywhere. Without links the SEs are not going to find the site.

BTW, 1 page of sparse details does not become useful information where SEs and the Electrical Contracting business is concerned. Believe me. I have one that I'm supposed to be maintaining, If and when the client gets around to sending me the information (only been a year now, so there's obviously no rush).

start with Kellysearch and Applegate for construction sites. Both will drive real traffic if you write your description well.
