I am drawing sections and elevations in 2-d. Some of my construction lines are projected off of 3-d components. I did not realize this was going on uintil I did a 3-d orbit. from the top view everything looks like its in the right place, but in any other view, the lines are going everywhere. I know that in Form-Z there is a command that allows you to lock all components to the X,Y plane. Is there a way to fix this, essentially flatten the drawing?

Hi CMac01,

Unfortuneately no. You can use grips and stretch each endpoint to the z-value you desire, but this can be tedious enough to make a saint swear.

You might have better luck (if it's a 3D solid), deleting the offending geometry, and then from paper space, create a viewport, and use the "solprof" command, this will automatically generate 2D sections of your 3D model.

Sorry if that's no help.

You can fix it using "flatten" (an Express Tools command or a readily available lisp routine); or use the "poor-man's" flatten technique, as follows:

Command: Move
Select objects: all
nnn found
Select objects: [return]
Specify base point or displacement: 0,0,1e99
Specify second point of displacement or <use first point as displacement>: [return]
Command:
MOVE
Select objects: p
nnn found
Select objects: [return]
Specify base point or displacement: 0,0,-1e99
Specify second point of displacement or <use first point as displacement>: [return]

-------------------------------
In moving objects to a ridiculously high z value then back, the z value of *most* objects become 0.0.
