I changed the location of my backup path to do a backup on drive E:\ which is my USB drive. And now the Back and Restore cannot tell me where the network location is for the default backup and restore files that I created. I like to go back so it is automated again!

How do I set back the "default location" that all the files and folders? have been stored?

I would try a search but I don't even know the file extensions or anything about what the backup files look like or how to locate them.

All I need know is how to go back to where Windows 7 has sets the default location to!

Is this madness or what? Help!

I am not on a network either! I want to go back to my hard drive! But now; it goes to the D:\ drive for a cd\dvd! There not way to change it other then the network change option.

It does not recognize the hard drive ->C:\

By the way - HarryWild - C: would not be showed for backing up the files since it is the System drive. You cannot backup the files FROM C: TO C:

Not only will C: not be shown, but if you ever had a second drive, and installed software to it, that drive now becomes invalid as a backup location for windows backup. I run a system where C:/ is my boot drive, and D:/ has some of my programs on it, and since both locations have a /user,/program files folders, D doesn't show up as a valid location either. Did you plug in the USB drive after the system was booted up? You may have to reboot so that windows can show the location as a valid backup location, shouldn't have to, should just have to refresh devices, and make sure it has a drive letter in computer tab in windows explorer.

Thanks goombawaho, rclarke250!

"Backups are saved in this format: backup location\computer name\Backup Set year-month-day time. For example, if your computer name is Computer, your backup location is E, and you backed up on April 2, 2008 at 16:32:00, that backup would be located in E:\Computer\Backup Set 2008-02-04 163200."

I will try again when I am at my PC and tell you if you're Windows redirects to the default location in the hard drive or is still pointing to the D location of the DVDS burner.

I final got it back to normal again.
When I loaded Backup and Restore; it was the same as before; with a red "X" over the "D" drive (DVD burner).
What I did was to select change setting and enter "c:\Harry and then complete the bottom which is the name and password for the network authority; Next. Windows changed the settings to the Network path:\\Harry-PC\Users\Harry. You have to do a backup to complete the deal! It is backing up now!

So I am very happy that I got it back to were it was.

So, that is that!

Thanks for all the help on this! Never going to backup on a UDB ever again!
