I am the Site Admin for a hosted Sharepoint site (CobWebUK) and previously I have created some users who received logon details from the system. Some users have lost their details and now can't login but there seem's to be nothing I can do as admin to find out or reset their passwords.

I have tried deleting and recreating their accounts but Sharepoint remembers that they existed, uses the same account with the same details and won't allow me to send another logon details email from the Add User screen.

What can I do?

Well, I would think a simple way would be to delete the user, and then recreate. I think that may be what I did in the past when I ran into the same issue.

I've tried this, but it just remembers the user from before and doesn't give me the option to send a logon details email. I have to stick to using the same user names as well since it's dependant on the email address.

Well, that was something else, apparently. I don't even seen an option, currently, to edit the password or delete the user or anything, though I'm sure I've done it before.

I don't know if it will work for everyone with Sharepoint, regardless of what server/company, etc., but I found this link:
https://www.microsoft.com/smallbusiness/online/collaboration-software/sharepoint/faq.mspx

and there is a question listed:
"Q. Is there an online password reset tool for SharePoint?"
Then answer given is:
"A. Yes you can reset your password by clicking on the link below
http://ulogin.bcentral.com/en-US/sp2.htm#0
"

Try checking that out as well.

What weird way of doing things, Microsoft get sillier every day. Waiting for the reply now, hope it works, it only asked for my email address and not my Sharepoint url.

Definitely a weird way to do it, but hopefully that works out.

Also, if you are on an enterprise setup, then the network admins can set it up to be attached to your Windows logins, so no one has to remember a password. That is the way ours is setup. I was thinking of something totally unrelated to SharePoint in reference to resetting someone's password in my first post. Oh well. [blush]

Have you deleted--recreate their accounts in Sharepoint or Active Directory?

If it was done in Sharepoint all that was done was remove the user from Sharepoint and put them back in. Active directory stores the password. If you go into Active directory you can right click on the user name and change their password. Then if the user is still having trouble, have them clear all their temp files in IE. along with stored passwords.

HTH

When frustrated remember, in the computer world there is almost always a backdoor.

The sites not on our server (hosted) with no active directory.

But...I've had a response from Cobweb to telling me how to alter user passwords. Site Settings > Site Administration > View site collection user information.

So now I can sort it. Never received a response from Microsoft on their password reset thing although they may delay it by a day or two to stop it being abused.

Thanks for your help anyway guys (or gals).

Guy here. [smile]

Just wanted to clarify. That's not a think I'd want to leave "open" to interpretation. LOL
