Hi, has anyone extended their ISDN30 channels across fibre. At the end of the fibre link is the BCM400 PBX which we are having to relocate. I have looked into this and feel it requires fibre convertors but there are such an array of products and I have no idea if I really need to send upwards of £500 each or if there is a more appropriate/cheaper solution.

HAs anyone done this and if so can you let me know how you went about it please and whether the convertors are easy enough to configure.

Does it also depend on the type fibre being provided?

Thanks JJ

I have never done it as I rather have the provider move it and then I am sure that this is my point where I have to get my system to and where the line provider needs to fix anything.

I would think a media gateway at each end would only work.

PBX <--> Media GW SIP <--> Fibre <--> SIP Media GW PRI <--> PBX

and you can do it with the devices, or Patton, or Quintum

either way, is isnt going to be cheap!

I would have to agree with Westi
Have the line provider relocate the circuit.
cutting corners invariably causes more trouble than it works.

Example, site looses calls:-
Line provide test O.K.
PBX Maintainer tests O.K.
Days of finger pointing & no progress.
Someone spots the media gateway which has been unpluged by a cleaner.

I have been there numerous times.

A Maintenance contract is essential, not a Luxury.
Do things on the cheap & it will cost you dear

Thanks All, but unfortunately, shifting the circuit is not an option in this particular case. So we are going to go with the media convertors. And having been in this game for a few years, I do know this will come and bite us on the bum at a future date when it comes to fault responsibilities. I findit incredible these days that there are still so many issues with all round telephony support. no matter what direction we go in there are always problems. Oh well, c'est la vie.:)
