How do I export a query?

My database contains a function that accepts as parameters a query name, and export spec, and a file path. The function then needs to export the query to the file path, using the export spec. But it just gives me the error "Cannot update. Database or object is read-only." Can anyone tell me why it does this?

What type file (text, excel spreadsheet) are you exporting to? What is the extension? Terry

You know, I read about how Access 2000 only imports certain file extensions, I don't know why I never figured it would only export the same extensions. Thanks so much for your idea!
