My site links to several other external resource sites and I would like to be able to display theses sites within the framework of my sites template so that my customers can view the resources on the other sites but still remain on my site.

Ideally I would like the resource sites to appear in 'Editable region 1' on my HTML page.

I am not a programmer and use only HTML but if scripts are required e.g. java or PHP etc. and can be provided, I am not against trying them out (but I may need more help in applying them).

First of all ask the other sites if they can provide a feed (XML, RSS etc) of the stuff you want on your site.

If they don't, or won't then it's possible they won't be best pleased with you passing off their content as yours.

You are then into the realms of screen scraping which is something I'm not keen on so won't advise further.

The final option is just to create an iFrame on your page and load the other page into it. But I'm guessing this isn't what you had in mind.

Thanks Foamcow
I don't want to do anything dodgy, the other sites want this to happen and it will be a two way thing.
At least one of the sites has offered an RSS feed.
I have a link to their site and my customers can download some information from the remote site but the remote site is not visible in my template - they just go to the site and get a downloaded file. We would all like the customer to be able to browse the remote site and then be able to use the navbar on the local site to continue browsing.
The iFrame option sounds like it might be what I need.
Can I insert an iFrame into an editable region? I thought this was not possible.

No idea about editable regions. Aren't they specific to a particular WYSIWYG application?

The better solution is through using a datafeed of some kind, but otherwise you are stuck with iFrames (which will display the entire target site in a frame within your page) or some form of screen scraping using a server side language to 'read' the other site and just show the bits you want. This is in itself problematic as it relies on the structure of the other site's pages remaining the same. Any changes and it will stop working.

If the other site is happy for you to show their stuff on your pages then surely there will be no problem either getting a data feed or just take the content and manually put it on your site.
