How do I DISABLE RIGHT MOUSE BUTTON

How do I disable the right mouse button in XP Home version? I can disable the wheel but I don't see how to diable the right mouse button - or change what it does.

This is for someone with Parkinson's.

Interesting one. I think it would depend on the mouse driver that was supplied with the mouse.

Assuming you can't program your own mouse driver I would consider two options:

1. Locate the National Parkinson's Sufferers Foundation or whatever its called, and ask them. Its likely that they've had to deal with this kind of issue in the past.

2. Get a screwdriver and open up the mouse, then physically remove the clicking mechanism from the right mouse button.

You can use a script that does this in web pages, but I don't think that's what you are after.

i know that in a school i service they have successfully denied access to right mouse button in windows explorer, desktop etc. This i believe is all done through gpedit.msc

Thanks... I am looking at the gpedit.msc now and don't see it - but I have 2000 at work - not XP. This will probably be the place to do it if I can find where.

i just looked and cant see it either. (ive got a W2k advanced server aswell). I would suggest that you look into startup scripts

You cannot really disable the right mouse button, not without some kind of program or driver. However, you can disable the context menu that comes up on the desktop when clicking it.

Okay there are two registry keys that can be modified. Click Start then run and type regedit and hit ok.

Now navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer

Create a new DWORD or modify an existing one called NoViewContextMenu

and set it to 1.

The other key which is system wide will be at:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer

and set the same DWORD setting of NoViewContextMenu to 1
