I want to copy an "inner glow" effect from one object to another and thought I saw once a way to drag it from the appeareance list right onto an object or something like that. Anyway, I know I could turn it into a graphic style, but then the fill color and everything else goes along with it (plus it is kind of tedius). Is there a quick way to do it more similar to using the eyedropper tool or something? (Why doesn't the eyedropper tool do this by the way? Is there a setting that would make it?)

Thanks,

Norm:

At best, the eyedropper will be spotty (depending on the level the effect is applied to, object, group, layer, etc...). You can double-click the eyedropper tool to get a list of options so you can set what it picks up and what it doesn't.

The preferred way, is to do this:

1. In the layer palette, click on the expand arrow at the left side of the layer name;

2. At the right end of each line item, there's a little circle or a little ball. The ball indicates that there's an effect applied to that specific object. Click and Alt-Drag the ball over onto the line item of the object you want to copy the effect to.

Hope that makes sense to you... Let me know.

The red arrow points to the object with an effect applied. The green arrow points to the selected group you can drag and drop it to. If you want to move the effect rather than copying, just leave off the Alt step.

The little blue blocks indicate the current selection. In order to copy effects this way, you don't have to have anything selected, it doesn't even need to be unlocked...

Learning how to read and use the layers palette is very useful.

Thanks for the help Bert. I never knew you could set eyedropper options like that. Both methods work great.
