I'm attempting to do away with our current setup of using a modem due to it being pretty unreliable.

I've set up a PC and connected it to the port that the modem at the remote site was connected to.

What I need to know is:

Can I use Hyper Terminal to connect with?
If so, what settings do I use? 8N1?
How do I find out the Baud of the system?
Once/If connected, how do I log in, etc?

The system is an 11c.

Your going to need a Nul Modem Adapter, and some software to emulate a VT100 or VT320

Thanks. I've now ordered a null modem cable.

Hyperterminal is capable of VT100 emulation, will that be sufficient?

Any ideas on my other questions?

Just match your Modem settings, as far as Baud rate and parity

I have used PuTTY and Procomm to connect as well. Google PuTTY, its a free down load. Note that PuTTY has issue with meta key (F1-F6) configs when accessing Meridian Mail. Other than that, you can do anything you need.

The serial lead finally arrived. I have now connected it and have had no joy whatsoever.

The lead is plugged into Port 0 where the modem was connected.

I have had to use a modem eliminator adapter in order to get the lead to fit. (This was previously connected to the lead the modem was connected with...)

Details below of the ports. Am I right in saying that there are no settings for Port 0?

I'm concerned that there are no baud, parity, etc settings listed for port 0.

I was advised to use a null modem cable to connect with, unfortunately it wasn't the correct connection for one end so the modem eliminator was used to change the gender.

My thinking it would be ok to use this is because it was plugged into the modem to change the gender for the lead that was plugged into, too.

Yes it is. I'll have to check what the dip switches are set to. (Its a remote site)

I swapped the null modem cable for a standard modem cable with the modem eliminator attached.

In one of my posts above I mention Port 0, but should have remembered it is plugged into Port 1.

The prt of the ACAD settings show Port 1 is set to 1200bps.

I copied these settings and then received a reply from the switch and was able to AX into Meridian Mail.

I now just need to get hold of Procomm in order to use the F keys.

Thanks for all the advice.

My F keys work on hyperterm. What emulation are you using. By default I think Hyperterm uses ANSIbbs

It auto detected to VT52 and the display was terrible.

I set it to VT100 and all looked fine, just the F keys won't work.

I've tried ANSI and ANSIW and both corrupt the display.

The old PC that connected via modem used Phonemaster v3.01 by Phoneware.

I don't have any install discs and we currently don't have a support contract with Phoneware. I also can't simply download it and install on the new PC.
