I know I know how to change the program to open a file with, but for the life of me I can't remember how to do it right now when I need to do it. Can anyone jog my memory for me?

try in Windows Explorer, View...Folder Option, then goto the File Type Tab.

Thank you for responding. It appears I may be wrong about the problem. I went to Explorer..View..Folder Option and File Tab. The program I want to use is Acrobat and it appears the .pdf extension is listed in the file types. I can open the file by going through Start..Programs..Acrobat. But if I double click the file from explorer I get an error that says the file is "not a valid Win32 application". So I think the wrong program is associated with the shortcut. Does this make any since to you?

Suggestion:

go back into folder options, highlight the .pdf file extention and click on edit, see if there is "OPEN" anywhere in the new window.

if there is, click on it (to highlite it) again click on edit IN THAT window and check out the path to the Acrobat's exe file

if this ISN'T one, click on new, in the window that opens type in "Open" in the "Action" box and click on the next box "Appliction which performs function" click on browse, find the directory for the Acrobat's Exe file that you'll use to OPEN the .pdf file, select OK once you've highlighted the exe file, select ALL OKs and close up the View File Types till you're back in explorer, and that should take care of redirecting the Wind's open pointer.

Good luck--

Quickest way that I have found to do this sort of thing is:

1)highlight the acrobat file(*.pdf) by left clicking on it once

2)while holding the shift key down right click on the file.

3)from the resulting menu choose open with

4)This will produce a window where you can select the program that you wish to open the file with. If you put a check in the checkbox the association will become permenant (sp?).

Good Luck.... [sig]<p>Troy Williams B.Eng.<br><a href=mailto:fenris@hotmail.com>fenris@hotmail.com</a><br><a href= > </a><br> [/sig]
