Hi all
I'm have just started using Dreamweaver 3, and have made a basic page using a lot of layers. These layers contain tables and graphics....
My question is, how do i center the page?
the page is stuck to the left side of the Browser, the page has been built in 800x600, but when i surf i use 1024x768.
When i visit other sites the page i'm viewing automaticly centers in my browser (IE5), but mine does not.....
Can anyone help me with this problem?????

Thanks Gow

You can convert your layers into table, then center your page by selecting the "Align Center" button.
I'm not sure how you can center your page with layers. If anyone know, please help!

Would i be able to place all the layers in a large single cell table then align it????

You are not place all your layers in a table. You are converting all your layers into a table.

First, layout the page the way you want by using layer. Then go Modify > Layout Mode > Convert Layers to Table.

In the Convert Layers to Table dialog box select "Most Accurate" if you want your table layout look exectly the same as your layers layout and select "Center on Page". Click OK.

Your page then will contain a centered table with differet table cells within it according to the way you lay it out.

You can convert your table to layers any time you want under the same Layout Mode. But I'll recommend you finish your page as much as you can before you convert your page into table. This will save you lot of time from converting back and for between table and layers.

That's all I know to center a page. I'm trying to find out how to center a page without converting layers into tabel. Because by converting layers into table you are losting all your layers. But sometimes I like to remain those layers for such as drop down menu - when user mouse over on a object which will tell the the brower to show a specified layer. If anyone know how to. Please Help!!!

Hope it answer your question!

I don't think there is any way to have layers aligned or centered. Remember that the browser positions a layer based on a simple coordinate system starting from the top left of the browser window. It doesn't care whats in the way, it just puts it at those coordinates no matter what. The only way I can see that you might be able to center it is by using frames.....but that might be a little too complicated.

GimpBoy,
How? Can you simply explain how it works. Thanks!

I'd like to.... but I'm not that experienced with frames. I'll give you the basic idea and then maybe you could get it actually working. When you use layers and frames the layers will be positioned according to the coordinates from the top left of the frame, not the browser window. I didn't explain that well enough before. If you could center a frame in the middle of the page for any resolution (I've seen it done, and I doubt its that difficult) and put all your layers inside it (make sure the layers fill the frame completely), the layers would be positioned in the middle of the browser window, but at the top corner of the frame that their are within. Making sense?
I hope so :)

GimpBoy, thanks for your input. I understand what you saying. I'll try it and let you know if it works or not. Thanks again.
