I can draw a block with nice edges and stuff, but what if i want to take out a groove in it, how do I keep the image as one? Also if I draw a tube in 3d, how do I make it so the hole dosent turn black, i want it to show through.

The easiest way to form a GROVE in the block of wood...
First SET the UCS ICON to the TOP/FLAT position in corner
THen pick Solid Wedge... Pick UCS corner... Give length... Give Height... As it is drawn... IF correct... then solid subtract... then MIRROR... Solid Subtract... DONE...
IF NOT... reposition UCS... do again...
You can make other types of groves with REVSURF... Extrude
