I hope this question is not too general. I'm a PC guy and I've just inherited the phone system responsibilities. I need to start from the ground up and learn everything I can.
What are my options, Vendor training, books, local colleges?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What sort of phone system is it and where are you located? You can try putting an ad out for retired phone guys who have a lot of knowledge on the particular system.

Without knowing any specifics about the phone system you have, I would suggest that you start with your vendor. Most will have a wealth of information on their website, and will offer vendor-specific training.

Thanks for the great input, I'll look into all of these ideas
