can anybody tell me how do i backup my exchange 5.5 database on hard disk rather than on tape

Id like to find an answer to this question too. Can anyone help?

Try Veritas Backup Exec (8.6). This can be set up to back up to defined folders. You could always use mirrored drives although this will be of no use for a corrupt database.

Chris.

Possibility: First, bring down your Exchange Server so it is not running. Once this task is completed, you will able to copy the pub.mdb & priv.mdb to another part of the drive. Rename these files to *.bak. Then, go ahead and restart your Exchange Server.

Of course, these files are static for that one time. If you want to do this, say, every night, create a batch file that will bring down the services and perform a copy, overwriting the *.bak files and restarting your services. Be warned - these *.mdb files can be huge!

If you have a Win2k server, you can use NTBackup. You must also install the Exchange Administrator on that Win2k server. NTBU will then display Exchange icons and will provide a "proper" backup of the databases. You can direct the backup to any storage medium on the network.
