Hi guys,

Sorry for the seemingly thick nature of this question.

We run Win2K AD domain with 2 DC, 1 Exch 2K server, and several member servers.
Our backup solution consists of a Quantum ValuLoader DLT 8 tape jukebox (that currently backs up our fileserver) and a single Quantum VS80 DLT tape drive (that backs up,our Exch 2K server). Our backup software is Veritas Backup Exec 9.

MY question: I wish to make sure all my AD info is being backed up in our backup runs (I'm pretty sure the AD on the Exch server is being backed up, as the System State is included in the backup selection of that job). Do I have to back up the System State on every one of my member servers, or will just backing up the ones on our DCs be sufficient?

Thx

You have to back up all of them. I case of failure this also gives you flexibility for authoritative/nonauthoritative restore.

So is it just the System State I need to back up on each of them?

(Thanks, by the way)

For Disaster Recovery you need also system drive, and whatever data you want from the other drives.
System state only allows you to fix problems with domain like deleted OU, registry key, GPO etc.

Correct above for disaster recover at least you global catalog DC should be backing up the system state and the C: drive.

If you exchange server is a DC then you would select the C: drive, System State, and Information Store at minimum to recover the exchange server.

I would suggest to upgrade Veritas to Backup Exec 9.1 with SP4. This is a free upgrade
