I have a Nortel BCM 450 and I want to give every Phone/DN a caller ID name. When I try to do this through the BCM Element Manager I can only enter 7 characters for the Phone/DN name to appear on the caller ID. Is there any way to make this longer?

I have a 32 character display on my phone and when I call someone and it is handed over to voice mail the display will show the entire mailbox name (first and last name) I know the system is capable of displaying much more characters than I can define.

Any help would be appreciated.

I have not used a 450 as yet, however bcm 50/200/400 have all had this limitation of a 7 character DN name. I know it makes absolutely no sense, but I am afraid we are stuck with it.

Hopefully someone in Nortel/Avaya will cop on to this and do something about it, I'm not holding my breath though.

Hmmm, at my previous job we had nortel/meridian phones and you could see the entire name. I wonder if you tag the name somewhere else than the DN.

Same thing on Bcm450, 7 characters maximum and 10 digits on the Public OLI.
The 16 characters names you get when going to the mailbox are for internal, you can't outpulse that to the Public side.

We presently do not have callerid service so I'm not interested in outside callerid. I just want to know who is calling me when an internal caller makes a call to me. So right now if two users have the same last name I have no way of differentiating. And if the users name is longer than 7 characters it gets truncated. I just don't know why when voicemial kicks in you can see everything, but a normal call us so limited on the callerid info.

This is from the good old Norstar, the Bcm is an evolution of it. Was probably 7 characters to save some precious bytes...!
Another thing to keep in mind is that when you get someone mailbox it shows the entire name and nothing else versus when you call that same person it will show "calling XXX" so they had to keep the name short to be able to put other details.
