How do I assign a URL address to a block of text in illustrator

Once I have assigned a URL address to a block of text, I want to save the Illustrator file as a PDF so I can send it via email. I want the people receiving the PDF to be able to click on the block of text that was assigned the URL address and be directed to the address.

I'll bet you need to have Acrobat (full version) to do that...
My understanding is that all you're doing by saving to pdf in Illustrator is taking a snapshot of the file; you need Acrobat to give elements in the pdf document different properties.
(be glad to find out I'm wrong, btu Acrobat is on my Must Have list...)
