I have a number od machines in a school computer lab. How can I set up a shared network printer so that anyone who logs on to that computer will see the printer available. Since these computers are part of a NT domain, I have no idea who will be logging on. Anyway, all I want to do is set up hte printer once for all users of that machine. Thanks in advance for any help.

Can you clarify what you are doing? When you say shared network printer, is it to be connected directly to the network or is it to be connected to a PC and shared from there? And you're saying you want the printer available from just one workstation (or a group of workstations?) - whoever logs on to that workstation?

1. The printer is a shared printer on an NT box.

2. I want each user on each of the workstations in the room to have the printer assigned as its default printer.

Thnx

Been awhile since I've done anything like this!

If you create a batch file which contains a net use command, eg:-

net use LPT1: \\printerworkstationname\printersharename /persistent:yes
(see win2000 help on net use command) and then have that batch file run for all users at windows startup on each machine you want to use this printer (you can use startup manager - to achive this).

I'm not sure if this makes printer default or just available (but if no other prinbter, should be default).

You'll need drivers for printer installed on each PC concerned (was wondering if just installing the shared printer on each machine logged on as Adminstrator might do the trick on its own).

This information is almost certainly missing details, so you may need to have a play (unless someone else answers your question) - so hope this helps!
