I want to add an addional cash drawer to my Aloha system. I have 5 terminals, the bar and front terminals have cash drawers. That would be Term 1 and Term 2, and I want to add an addional cash drawer to term 3. I have puchased the used cash drawer MMF 200, and conected the phone line conection to the printer. The system does not recognize the drawer. I have gone back in the back office and under hardware drawers and it shows 01 drawer and 02 bar drawer under term 1&2. I have looked and set 01 drawer under term 3 with no results. Does the system have to be refreshed or night cycle? or is ther another setting I need to do?

Now what?

It sounds like you changed Drawer 1 to work under Term3, when what you need is a third drawer altogether.

Leave the T1 and T2 drawers set to those terminals.

Add a third drawer. Do this by selecting either of the drawers in the dropdown box so that the box is highlighted in blue. Then hit the number 3, or whatever the next available ID is, and then hit enter. Do not backspace to do this! Just hit the drawer ID you want and hit enter.

Now you have a blank template for your new drawer.

If it is going to run off the printer, then select the printer it runs off of in the upper right corner. If it won't let you, make sure the Drawer Type is Printer Interface. Enter a description and hit save.

You have to do a refresh data for almost any change in Aloha 5.3. There are very few exceptions that have to do with employee maintenance and pricing. So when done, click Utilities > Refresh Data and hit yes. Know that it will make the FOH terminals reboot! Don't do it when you are busy.

Then go to manage drawers and see if you can open it. If it doesn't let us know if you could hear it "click" or not. Also hit Exit and touch the screen once and report any errors you see.

MMF is a Radiant approved drawer, so it should work.

Great thanks, Our POS Aloha Software vendor would have charged us $200 for that trip out and addtion. I don't mind doing my part for the economy as long aa it's somewhat fair? I will let you know if this works in a couple of hours as my people make the chages..

Setting as per above instuctions Term3 now allow me to asign drawer however the draw does not pop open, with no clicks.

Do you have an error message?

Touch the screen one time from a floating logo and see if you get a message screen that starts with: "Warning, Errors have occurred."

In the mean time, to the world at large, on printer interface drawers, will they get an error message if the cable to the printer is bad? It's been so long ... we use OPOS where I am at now, so I am not sure anymore.

Nope, no error messages drawer just won't pop open. My guess is the drawer I am using is an older style drawer and if I were to buy a newer style drawer it would work. Any other setting I can look at?

Not an Aloha user BUT, if the draw doesn't click, the drawer selonoid is not getting proper voltage. This can be a cable that has an incorrect pin-out. What kind of cable did you use? Phone cables will not work. Most are 6 pin straight thru cables.

2nd, the wires that connect the selonoid are typically soldered and it is possible that a wire(s) have broken off their post. Take the bottom off the drawer and examine the wires. They are small 24 gauge size and are certainly capable of breaking. Own a soldering iron?

3rd, swap the printer to verify that the one you are using has a good cash drawer kick port. Make sure that printer works somewhere else.

Drawer has to be able to be fired by an Epson printer. If the voltage is different it won't work and you could damage the printer.

In Aloha under Hardware/Cash Drawers you need to add the additional drawer, set the type as Printer Fired, associate with the printer attached to THAT terminal, and set the drawer number to 1.

It's Epson only on printer fire drawers? Thought we just happened to only use Epson - never realized it was a requirement. :)

Fired by an epson only? Not really. As long as you have the cash drawer cable pinned out correctly you will be fine.
