I have a Compaq Deskpro XL466 being used in a network,(as a workstation) one of the programs running utilizes a time limit "beep"(kind of essential in creating awareness to the user)however I have no "PC speaker" inside this machine ??? I looked inside on the board for any hints of where I could plug a pc speaker into, but not sure what\ where to look? Any help or suggetions would be appreceiated.
thanks

Beepless One.

Thanks for the manual, not sure though how to make the floppy's? Am I missing something?

I think i got the floppy's I need. I made a diagnostics floppy and a firmware floppy.
thanks

good, now you can get inside the bios and see if there is a place to turn on the integrated sound system.
Bear in mind you may have to locate and install drivers for the sound, or maybe windows will install them on bootup.
Again, you may, in addition to having to enable sound in the bios, also may have to move a jumper on the mobo to enable the onboard sound as well.
You should be able to find info at hp on this. It may be in the manuals that i pointed you too, not sure.

Figures, I put the utility disk and rebooted, nothing happended??? Computer still booted to network... Could it be some kind of fast boot?

Still Can't access bios??

Downloaded and read the manual - on page 6.1, it shows "P6-Speaker connection".

If all you want to do is be able to hear beeps from your computer, then you can do as i described above and all a computer box speaker by attaching the speaker to pins on the motherboard/ You can download the manual that i found.

Ok this is where I'm at........ I have taken the motherboard completely out of an identical compaq that is not in use. No where on this board or the riser board connected to it are there any pins not being used, except the a 4 pin space that only has 3 pins that says E3 BTRY , I'm assuming Battery? Other than that there are no other pins? The Motherboard says: Compaq 1994 DIAG. NO 004034
ASSY. NO 004033-001 REPLACE W/SPARE 148077-001
I've looked all over the web and found nothing?
My other option is to configure another computer(workstation) to do the job of this location. Not sure if this is an easy task? Using Lanworks Bootware, is it as easy as swapping network cards? The workstations do boot to different programs currently? Am I over my head, or is this fairly straight forward?
thanks for all input
