Well, I have asked before how to get my computer to
act and respond to my HP Deskjet 3745 printer but with
no success. Therefore I thought if I could configure or
reconfigure my computer, maybe I could get my
printer to work again like it did before I had my computer
restored to its original state.
You need to configure your operating system by adding the drivers (interface between the operating system and whatever port the data goes through). Making a printer work is very seldom an issue that can be resolved by configuring the hardware. And in the case of a parallel or USB port the only hardware configuration you generally have available is activation it.
If nothing was done except restoring the OS nothing was done that would require hardware configuring.

Give the wrong symptoms, get the wrong solutions.
You can usually download the needed drivers for HP from the hp.com site. Most of the printers today work on usb ports with some still having a parallel option. So connect the printer to the port (unless the driver installation says not to until the driver is installed), If it does not find the printer at this point use the add new hardware from the control panel and select the disk option and use the CD/DVD that came with the printer or the downloaded file to get the driver. (or add new printer).
