Hi all,

I have got urgent query to disable one user to remote access to database.

I know how to disable remote access connection but only for one user I am not really sure.

If you guys have advise how to do this that would be really appreciated.

Regards,
Hendra

It depends on your security model. Is the user connecting with a database login or through network authentication? If they're using a database login, is it a generic account used by an application?

You can probably add their network account as a security login and then explicitly deny access to the server. Look at Securables under the Login Properties of the account or group.

Hi Phillhege,

Yes, the user login using network authentication.

how do we explicitly deny access to the server? is it going to work on virtual server as well?

please elaborate more details.

Thankyou,

Just to be clear....you say you are trying to block this user's 'remote' access....does that mean you still want them to be able to access it locally? Or do you want all access blocked?

If all access needs blocked, drop his login from the server. If he is part of a SQL Server group login, drop his login from the group.

If you are only trying to block his remote access but still allow him to connect locally, I'm not sure how you could do that. The server/network admins might be able to do that, but I don't think SQL Server has a way to do that.
