I have two home offices, one in the US and one in Canada, that allow me to remotely connect via VPN to my employer's main office in New York. I have NO problem with VPN connection when I am in the US office (with a download speed of about 4 Mbps). Yet, I have problem with VPN connection in the Canada office even with a download speed at 15 Mbps. I noticed that the upload speed is significantly lower in my Canada office than in my US office. It is always above 1Mbps in US yet it is only up to 500Kbps in Canada, sometimes it was as low as 300 Kbps. It seems that the traffic in Canada location is choked. I would type and wouldn't see anything I typed, and then a minute later all of the words I typed would appear all at once. In Canada, often when I tried to access via VPN, I got timed out several times before I could get the connection. Also it takes forever to open a data-base application stored in the main office.
One time I went to a university in Canada and tried to VPN connect from there to see if the problem could be caused by cross-country connection (my low-tech minded guess!). The connection was super fast, even faster than the one in my US office. I found out that the download speed for that university was like 100Mbps (but I didn't find out what the upload speed was).
So what could be the problem of my slowed-down/choked speed with the VPN connection in my Canada office? How could I locate the problem? and solution? I don't think I could upgrade my internet connection speed in my Canada office to the same speed as that of the university because I was told that 15Mb was the fastest speed for a residential area. Are there other solutions? To show my appreciation for any workable solution, I would be happy to send you a check ($200.00 for your time). Thank you!
