I am new to this site and just want to start off by saying hello.

I currently have a single cabinet Merlin Magix with the following cards: Processor, 3 412 TDL cards, a Messaging Card, and 100DS1 card.

I have become fairly proficient with the programming interface, but this will be my first hardware install.

I am looking to add an Expansion Cabinet with a single 024TDL card. I do not wish to change any of the existing extension numbering.

That being said I have a few questions.

1) Do the extension cards have to be in a specific order, or can any card go anywhere (i.e. Can I install the 024 in the expansion cabinet, even though the Messaging and DS100 cards are in between it and the existing 412s)?

2) Will the system automatically recognize the expansion cabinet? If not what programming changes need to be made?

3) As far as wiring extensions to the new card, I will be using a 25 pair cable to a punch block. I assume that I will only use the first 24 pairs of the cable?

I understand how to renumber all the new extensions to fit my numbering scheme, as well as doing voice mail and all the other user crap (features, etc..).

Thanks in advance for any help.

Mike

1) Just put up the expansion cabinet and install the 024 in the first slot. You don't want to move cards around in an established system, just expand to the right.

2) After you power back up the first time (From RIGHT to LEFT), go into system progamming, select System, Board Renumber, and answer YES to the "Do you want to continue?" question. The system will look out and see the new card and add it to its "brain". The system will restart, and all will be OK.

3) Yes, you will be using only the first 24 pairs of the 25 pair cable, but you might as well punch down the violet/slate pair on the block as it won't matter anyway.

Sounds like you've got a good handle on your system. Good luck!
