The ad was created in Quark 5.0 on a PC using Windows Media Edition 2005. The file was sent to the ad booklet company and the woman works on a MAC. She's working with OS10. I told her MACs should read PC files, not the other way around. It should open and show all parts! The colors and fonts are simple. The colors are red and blue. The photos are greyscale (used get picture...) the logo is black and white, that is dropped in as well. But she is not able to see it on her screen. The only fonts to call for are Arial and Times New Roman so whatever her system looks for and wants to replace, it can, and the design won't change too drastically. The duedate is 7-13-06! Help! Yikes! Thank you!

I agree with you, she should be able to open it, unless she's using an earlier version of QuarkXPress. The platform shouldn't matter, except for maybe a few font problems, but the document should still open.

Maybe you should send her a PDF instead?

Did you submit the file according to their specs? Did you send just the QXD file or did you also include the linked images? This is a strong argument for using PDF or EPS.

It's pretty clear that you did only sent the file (like Jim pointed out) and not the whole package as is necessary.

Use "collect for output" which will package the whole thing with a pictures folder a fonts folder and the document. Send that to the printer - or make a pdf.

Quark, like Indesign, Pagemeker, Illustrator and Photoshop has been cross platform for years. This has nothing to do with Mac/PC.

I did collect for output. Photos, fonts all went to the folder then I zipped and sent it to her. The collect for output folder contains the Quark report too. The booklet printer only uses red, blue, and all photos have to be greyscale. (Its a cost thing for color, they do 16 books).
If I were to send her a PDF (saved in Photoshop as a PDF in version 7.0) it wouldn't be as sharp as the rest of the pages because the booklet reads blocks of color created within Quark. The last time they dropped in a CMYK file and it was super fuzzy, colors were mucky and dark. (Marketer didn't tell us that it had to be created in Quark, printer's specs...) Its been redesigned in Quark, linking the images should work if all files were collected for output and zipped up...

If you sent her the package and she has Ouark 5 or later she should be able to open the thing just fine. I would check with her to see what version of Quark she's running, some people still rely on 4. If she has for (a printer SHOULD have the latest) you can backsave your Q5 to 4.

Sometimes, zipped folders get corrupted (especially if it's sent through AOL). OSX opens zips automacially, but you can tell her to right click (or control click) on the zip file and select Open With on the contextual menu. Then select Stuffit Expander and see if that works for unzipping and later opening in Quark.

You can also try sending the uncompressed folder.

Thanks jmgalvin...
I've suggested sending it uncompressed if she needs.
It was sent through cable.
Cheers!

If you do not have Adobe Acrobat Distiller then do not ever consider making a PDF from QuarkXPress by way of Photoshop. Make EPS from QuarkXPress instead.

Did anyone mention putting .qxd or .qxp at the end of the Quark file's name and the opening Quark and then Try File>Open and then open the file

Just saw your due date - hope everything worked out
